Waneeda       Surraya

Surraya
Case No 03C Age: 18 months Sexe: Femal
Date: 15 May 2007

Surraya’s situation :
Surraya is the youngest member of a very poor family with four children. The father is a “taxi-moto”, the mother has no profession. They have a monthly income of Frs. 220.-

The child suffers from cardiac problems as well as mongolism.
She has very little strength and is unable to walk or sit.She is incapable of chewing food and can only drink
baby formula.

Surraya is under observation by the university hospital of Hat Yai, where the doctors recommend an operation. They maintain that an 80% cure is possible.

This was a great surprise for us, because we’d had her medical record translated and evaluated by two doctors
in Switzerland. They confirmed that Surraya’s case ishopeless and that she is inoperable. The only possibility
is to make her as comfortable as possible and to give her the medicines she needs until, sadly, she no longer responds to medication. In general, such children do not have a long life expectancy.

We told the parents but they, understandably, cling to the prognosis of the Thai doctors. We explained that TSF could not finance an operation that would not result in a cure, but we proposed to bring Surraya to Phuket for still another medical checkup. With this additional medical opinion they will better understand the situation. We have made an appointment for end of July and will take the family to Phuket.

How we help
We assist the family for the purchase of medicines, diapers and baby formula, which they cannot afford.

This family is situated in the most thankless social class, the one for which the state provides the strict minimum of aid, with his low salary it is very difficult for the father to provide for his family.

The family takes great comfort in our support, both financial and moral. But they urgently need additional,
outside help.

How you can help
Purchase of medicines and vitamins.
Financing by TSF for transferring Surraya to the specialized hospital for
     her periodic checkups.
Purchase of baby formula, cereal, diapers..
